What model of Sony voice recorder is it? If we know, we might be able to search the web for some info on it. Would it be reasonable for us to assume that it has a USB port?
In any case, USB is just a physical and logical connection between devices; it doesn't mandate particular capabilities at the application level. For instance, you can connect a USB/serial adapter and hook up a serial printer, and even print to it; but a 'Printer' folder wouldn't suddenly appear in Finder.
But just attaching a USB-capable device to your Mac is unlikely to harm either the device or your Mac. Why not just try it -- and post back to let us know what you find!

Jul 23, 2019 How to transfer a voice file from the Sony® IC voice recorder to your Apple® Macintosh® (Mac) computer Sound Organizer does not recognize my Digital Voice Recorder. The Integrated Chip (IC) recorder is not detected as a removable drive on the computer. According to the 'Digital Voice Editor 2 Operating Instructions' available here, using the voice recorder as a 'removable disk' (i.e., viewing it over USB as a file system) isn't an option with the ICD-P320; and the Digital Voice Editor software isn't available for OS X. Or UNIX, for that matter.
